Sister Margaret Alexander Hoare

Margaret Alexander HoareHoare, Sister Margaret Alexander, 89, died in Parkstone Enhanced Care, Halifax, NS, on February 10, 2015. Born in Halifax, NS on June 1, 1925, she was a daughter of Alexander and Margaret (Parr) Hoare. Sister Margaret entered the Sisters of Charity – Halifax, on September 8, 1944 and made her final vows on August 15, 1953. She received a B.Sc. in the secretarial field; a M. Ed. in Business from Boston University; a M.A.T. in Religious Studies from St. Michael College in Vermont; and later a Diploma in Theological Studies from Regis College in Toronto. She began her ministry as an educator in 1947, and taught school in areas of Cape Breton, such as New Waterford and Glace Bay for 23 years before moving to Halifax. At St. Patrick High School in Halifax, she was a business teacher from 1970 to 1977. In the latter part of 1977, Sister Margaret became a judge-auditor in the Catholic Marriage Tribunal here in Nova Scotia, a ministry she served until 1986. In that year, she was transferred to Seton House of Prayer in Kelowna, BC where she spent many hours giving Retreats, Workshops and Spiritual Direction. Two years later, she was missioned to Montreal where she ministered in their Marriage Tribunal until 1998. She returned to Halifax in 1998 and served as a part-time Auditor in the Archdiocesan Catholic Marriage Tribunal until 2003 when she retired from active ministry. Sister Margaret is survived by her niece Charmaine Marie McDonald, Halifax; and by her nephew, Wayne (Janet) McDonald, Halifax. She was predeceased by her sisters Marie MacDonald (recently deceased), Florence Soares and Jeannette Hoare. The body will be in Caritas Residence on Monday, February 16, with visitation from 3 p.m. until the prayer service at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 17 at 10 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Chapel in Caritas Residence. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville, NS. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of Charity Ministry Fund.
