Feron, Sister Lucille (Marion David)

Feron-Lucille-greyscaleFeron, Sister Lucille (Marion David), 88, died in Parkstone Enhanced Care, Halifax, NS, on November 9, 2015.  Born in Montreal, QC on November 1, 1927, she was a daughter of Austin and Mona (Ryan) Feron.  Sister Lucille entered the Sisters of Charity – Halifax on September 8, 1945 and made her final vows on August 15, 1954.  She earned a BA from Mount Saint Vincent College, Halifax, NS, in 1959 and a M.Ed. in Administration from Boston College, Boston, MA, in 1966.  Sister Lucille began her ministry as an educator in 1948 at Resurrection-Ascension School, Rego Park, NY, followed by a short time at Sacred Heart School in Riverton, NJ, then four years at St. Sebastian School in Woodside, NY.  She was then missioned to Oxford School in Halifax, NS for three years before moving on to St. Patrick School, also in Halifax, where she served as Principal.  These ministry assignments lasted from 1948 until 1968.  In 1968, she was appointed Director of Education for the Halifax SC Province and also served as first Assistant on the Congregational Province Collegial Body.  From 1969 to 1974 she was a teacher at Bridgewater High School, coordinated a Religious Education Program and volunteered her services with the mentally challenged.  The following year she continued to be a coordinator of a Religious Education Program, but this time it was in Lakeside and Hubbards Parishes.  In 1975.  she served as assistant to the SC Provincial Treasurer, a position she held until 1980; she also volunteered at St. Vincent Guest House.  From 1980 to 1982, she became a full-time director of our Outreach Program at Mount Saint Vincent Motherhouse, a ministry she faithfully carried out until the late 1990’s when her health failed her.  In 2003, Sister was moved to Parkstone Enhanced Care, then to Caritas Residence for a brief time and then back to Parkstone Enhanced Care where she remained until her death.  Sister Lucille is survived by her brother Donald (Bud) (Lynda) Feron, and by many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Wallace; and by her brothers Gordon and Peter.  The body will be in Caritas Residence on Sunday, November 15, with visitation from 3 pm until the Prayer Service at 7 pm.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 16 at 10 am in the Immaculate Conception Chapel in Caritas Residence.  Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville, NS.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of Charity Ministry Fund.
