S. Elizabeth Trainor (Elizabeth of the Child of Jesus)

trainor-elizabeth-2Trainor, Sister Elizabeth (Elizabeth of the Child Jesus), 88, died on December 22, 2016 in Parkstone Enchanced Care in Halifax, NS. Born in Kinkora, PEI on September 20, 1928, she was a daughter of Joseph and Helen Agatha (McKenna) Trainor. She entered the Sisters of Charity – Halifax on September 8, 1951 and made her perpetual vows on August 15, 1960. Sister Elizabeth received a BA from Mount Saint Vincent University in 1972. She began her ministry in education in Dorchester, MA in 1954 and remained there until 1962 when she was assigned to Enfield until 1966. In that year, she was missioned to Dartmouth, NS where she taught until 1969. She then became the Catechetical Coordinator in St. Michael’s Parish where she served in that capacity until 1978. Sister then began working at Saint Vincent Guest House as an assistant in Activity Programs. Later, she spent some time taking care of her father until his death in 1992. While living in Lower Sackville, NS, she engaged in some volunteer ministry at the Correctional Centre there. At her retirement in 2001, she resided at Mount Saint Vincent Motherhouse until she moved to DePaul Hall in Parkstone in 2005. When Caritas Residence was opened, all the Sisters from DePaul Hall moved to that facility. Later, She again moved to Parkstone Enhanced Care where she lived until her recent death. Sister Elizabeth is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters: Sister Teresa Trainor, CSM, Anna Hachey, Una Flood, Mary Creamer, and Bernadette Trainor; by her brothers: George, Wilfred, Rev. Emmett, S.J., Rev. Lorne, S.J., Rev John, S.J., and Louis. The body will be in Caritas Residence on Wednesday, December 28, with visitation from 3:00 p.m. until the Prayer Service at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 29 at 10:00 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Chapel in Caritas Residence. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Lower Sackville, NS. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of Charity Ministry Fund.
